2. This kind of thing is why I have a policy of only booking flights direct with the airline. This is not a criticism of the OP, because I absolutely understand jumping on a deal.

I have a suspicion this wasn't a real travel agency, but an OTA, and OTAs are hated throughout the travel industry, especially by hotels.
