Amtrak Almost Canceled My Return Ticket

I’m not going to say exactly when or where this happened. This is to protect another person who could easily get into huge trouble.

I was taking a relatively short Amtrak trip…less than two hours. I had a lot of luggage. The station I got on at…let’s just say trying to use the restroom without leaving my luggage unattended wasn’t happening.

So I got on, situated my luggage, claimed a seat and then went to the restroom.

Oops, and Again, Oops

What did I find in the restroom?

An Amtrak employee badge and lanyard. I grabbed it with the intent of giving it to the conductor.

It was the conductor’s badge and lanyard. He’d taken it off in the restroom for whatever reason and forgotten it. An excusable error, and he was very relieved that I had grabbed it to give to him before it could walk. Needless to say, Amtrak employee badges, like airline employee badges, are not something you want walking away.

It was only after I got off that I realized that in all the furore?

He’d never scanned my ticket.

Thinking nothing of it, I met up with my ride and continued to my destination.
