Can you change doctors? My doctor is quite willing to prescribe me for a year at a time, and I come in for a test every year unless I have symptoms, in which case I have to come in for a check test to see how much they need to adjust my medication.

I'm not saying you're alone in your position, but there ARE doctors who will help you manage your condition in a more reasonable way so they can spend their time on patients who need them. The trick is finding them.
