Doctor Who in Flux — Analyzing Chibnall’s Opus
Chibnall’s tenure as showrunner is starting to come to a close, and it’s fair to say he hasn’t been the most popular.
Some of us like him better than Moffatt, some worse, and many have been cheering the imminent return of Davies.
COVID-19 has curtailed a lot of filming activity, so instead of a full season, we are getting a 6 episode mini-series then three feature length specials through 2022, leading to a regeneration next summer (Richard Ayoade, please?).
The 6 episode mini-series, titled “Flux” is Chibnall’s best work on the show, but also quite flawed in a number of areas. Spoilers follow. Trust me, hear it in River Song’s voice.

What I Liked
So, I’m going to start by going through the things I liked.
- The star-crossed lovers, although I would have liked to find out that the woman was a future Yaz girlfriend because I want Yaz to get a girlfriend and stop Martha Jonesing after the Doctor. I mean, great chemistry, but.
- The Weeping Angels. “That which holds the image of an angel, is an angel.” The Doctor being transformed into an angel for quantum teleportation was truly creepy. I have to admit I love the angels in general. It was nice to see them fleshed…
