First, I have to take issue with the idea that abortion "didn't exist" thousands of years ago.

There are a number of herbs that pregnant women are advised to avoid because they can cause miscarriage. Blue cohosh, for example, is a uterine stimulant, and has been used in traditional medicine to induce labor.

It's absolutely certain that people have been attempting, with varying degrees of safety and success, to rid themselves of unwanted fetuses for a VERY long time.

Second, I became pro choice the moment I was told that somebody I knew personally, in the U.K., was being forced to carry a baby with anencephaly to full term because ALL abortions after 20 weeks were illegal and this was in the 1980s.

It flipped a switch in my brain. I don't need to imagine that happening, because I've seen it. If the fetus is completely non-viable, then the parent should be allowed, possibly even encouraged, to abort so they can try again, and not forced to go through full term labor for nothing.
