Fischer reminds me of somebody I knew as a child.

She reminds me of the girl who was part of the driving force behind the removal of an antiquated rule in British tournament fencing, namely that women were not allowed to fight sabre.

She took on the entire establishment because she, ya know, *wanted to fight sabre.* Which was considered too "harsh" for girls, who were supposed to stick to foil and maybe epee.

If I recall correctly, her name was Susan Collins (Might have been Suzanne, my inability to recall names is really hitting today). She was never a great fencer.

But she wouldn't give up on her dreams and I hope Fischer doesn't give up on hers.
