Gentrification is pretty much bad for everyone, even small landlords. And I suspect you had to raise rents more than people with larger buildings and found it challenging to compete for tenants.

Taxes are included in the costs of managing the building and I agree that you have no choice but to pass that cost on. It’s also something that hits owners as well as renters.
