Yay. I’m no longer a temporary cyborg. The pins are out!

Pin Removal

I have major medical anxiety. The idea that he was going to just yank the pins out with a set of pliers was frankly terrifying.

So…I would like to reassure anyone else going through this kind of surgery that it’s not that bad.

Yes, he did just pull them straight out with a set of pliers. It was very quick, and hurt for a matter of seconds per pin. We aren’t talking extreme agony here either. It hurt less than an IV going in.

Then stopped hurting. I have to keep it wrapped for the rest of the day, then it’s all good.

My Status

My X-rays look good. I don’t have another appointment with my surgeon until Feb 15, which may be the last time I see him.

My pinkie finger is a bit swollen and slightly malrotated. Apparently the OT has a cure for this. I’m not sure I’m going to enjoy said cure very much…

Oh, and this short post is the first thing I have typed with both hands since the accident. Yes, I’m cleared to remove my splint and type within reason. But it kinda hurts and I’m typing like I was still learning!

Progress! I feel as if I’m actually on the mend now, not in some kind of weird post-surgical limbo. And like everything is going to me okay.
