Hand Saga — Part Three
It hurts. Can’t take another dose of Tylenol for another twenty minutes. I’m at about a 3 or 4 on the pain scale. Most people would be worse off.
Surgery
I had my surgery yesterday morning. At oh dark thirty. Seriously, getting up that early…
They used a nerve block and enough sedation to send me back to sleep. I was awake again after about 90 minutes, albeit brain fogged.
My surgeon didn’t tell me how it went…he used the much more efficient means of handing over x-rays of the repair. Not digital ones sadly. They show a successful closed reduction and pinning. As in you can’t even see the break. Assuming it doesn’t somehow shift, it looks excellent.
Next Steps
Next Wednesday I get a follow up and the non-removable splint removed. OT will then fit me for a removable splint and start me on some exercises.
I won’t know until the follow up how long the temporary pins have to stay in. It’s typically three to four weeks.
Anyone know of good dictation software? Dragon isn’t available for Mac and Otter isn’t suitable…
But I have much more hope for full recovery and a straight pinky.
