Housing requires job.
Health insurance requires job.
Food requires job.
Job is located in expensive city.
Economy sucks.
You can't find a job elsewhere.
Choice: Pay exorbitant amount for housing or lose health insurance.
Alternatively:
Aging parents live in place with exorbitant housing costs and you don't want to leave them. They refuse to move.
The idea that everyone is free to pick up and move at any time is an expression of privilege. Few have that privilege.
And the last alternatively: Loving the place where you live and caring about it.
"You can just move" is an expression of privilege.
If you don't need health insurance and can survive being jobless for a while (meaning you have savings) then you can just move, sure.
Most people do not have that privilege.
