I am reminded of the time we attempted to fly to Corfu airport in the 1980s. We were told outright that pilots don't like this airport because the "runway is the minimum length for this plane" and there's no "leeway." It's a short enough runway that they have to use full reverse thrust to land safely and if you go off the runway you're going to end up in A. A swamp, B. A mountainside, C. the Mediterranean or D. Corfu Town.

We were coming in at an odd time because of a mechanical which had delayed our flight four hours, resulting in a dawn approach. It was foggy.

The pilot was on final approach with landing gear down and did a last minute go around. I have never been on a plane that climbed that quickly and I came close to screaming (I was 14, to be fair). He said that he "couldn't see the other end of the runway" and had decided to abort.

We never did get down, either...we ended up diverting to Athens.

And a five minute Google search has informed me that Corfu was indeed one of those "black star" airports. Some pilots refused to fly there. However, the only accident I can actually find is a British Caledonian Airways BAC One-Eleven 501EX that aquaplaned on takeoff and wound up in the lagoon. One passenger died...of a heart attack. That was in 1972.
