I can see the point of it. Most of these kids are likely to select a gender once they hit kindergarten (awareness of gender seems to develop between age 3 and 5). And most of them are going to be cis because most of us are.

But I can see the point of trying this and it doesn't seem abusive to me as long as they don't try to assign the kid non-binary, which alas, I suspect a handful of parents might. A VERY small number.
