I didn't do any better when a "nice" couple from the U.K. who were traveling in the U.S. started being openly, hideously racist and expecting those around them to go along with it. (Brits are generally not as loud as Americans, but obnoxious Brits certainly exist).

I was embarrassed, told them to knock it off and fled. But looking back I could have handled it far, far better. The Americans present did not know the language they were using was racist.
