I love the books (behind on the show, only saw the first season), but I have to agree that there is a certain conservatism to it. The biggest example from the books is that Earth has UBI and most people sit around playing video games. (This is not the demonstrated result of experiments with UBI). The authors seem to see it as a necessary evil.

Again, I very much enjoy the books, but the politics in them are something you need to bear in mind and either appreciate or not.
