I remember losing it with a cousin of my husband...and I am honestly concerned about the situation, but there's nothing i can do...it's not that close a relationship and we rarely see them.
His four year old went into his cousin's room, my niece Dani, who is a Princess and a Girly Girl. She likes pink frilly things. Believe me, her parents did not cause this ;).
His eyes lit up.
HIs dad "Don't get too attached. Those are girl toys."
I turned to him and said, quietly, "Don't say girl in that tone around my niece."
It didn't turn into a massive confrontation, but I was annoyed.
Two years later, the boy was still after Dani's girl toys. And I know that if he is in fact she, her parents will not affirm her in any way. They don't even want any sign of mild gender nonconformity and are teaching this poor kid that girls are inferior.
Including in front of a girl who is very much a GIRL. I am a tomboy myself so I don't get the princess and frills thing, but I respect the princess and frills thing.
