I still think that more people need to get medical insurance for their pets. I can't own a pet right now because of a small apartment and allergies.

But if I did, I would *absoutely* get catastrophic medical insurance on the animal so that if something comes up that does require, say, several days of hospital on an IV...

(And if you have a dog, it's wise to combine this with liability insurance, because any dog CAN bite).
