I suspect that NASCAR will rule fairly quickly that this is not okay.

The last death in a NASCAR race was almost 22 years ago and that is in part because they work very hard to prevent them.

Chastain got away with it, but the worry is that less experienced drivers will copycat, including potentially in NASCAR's junior series, Xfinity. Sooner or later somebody is going to screw this up and cause a major wreck. Wall riding also potentially increases the risk of a catch fence failure, which can result in injuries to spectators.

On the other hand, it may not be necessary. When asked about the incident, Chastain said he doesn't want to do it again because it was "not pleasant." It might be that the drivers decide it's not worth it on their own.

At least some of the drivers also want it to be ruled illegal.
