I suspected this. The Hero's Journey is honestly nothing hugely important or defining.

And it encourages a certain style of writing which, I would note, often seems to attract certain, uh, people. (Star Wars fandom has a fascism problem and Mark Hamill has gone off on them on Twitter more than once).

If I ever write anything resembling it, it's by accident.
