I think it is very case by case. I pay people to do the things I am not good at myself and I often wish I could afford to pay somebody to do a few things for my business that I hate doing and take time away from my skills...which is how you end up with a secretary. (I've been a secretary in the past).
But let's say a guy is being paid to cut people's lawns. You would probably say he's being exploited.
What if I was to say he specialized in providing affordable yard care to seniors so they could stay in their homes longer?
I think rather than saying we shouldn't hire people to do these things, we should recognize that these things are important and pay and reward appropriately.
There are no unskilled jobs. Only undervalued ones.
And more people think they can cut their own hair than can. The same is even more true of authors who think they can do their own covers...
