Is the Republican Party in Real Trouble?

The midterms aren’t even over. Some races are going to recounts and, once more, Georgia’s senate seat is going to be up in the air until next month.

We have another election that won’t end. But this is not what pollsters predicted.

What happened to the red wave, and is the Republican Party in real, actual trouble?

I don’t often analyze politics, but I have some very strong thoughts about this.

There Should Have Been a Red Wave

Heck, by every “law” of American politics, there should have been a red tsunami. There are three factors that strongly favored the Republicans going into these elections:

  1. The Midterm Phenomenon. Historically, midterms always lean against the party that holds the White House. Americans seem to like divided government. They would rather have a Congress that can’t do anything than one that’s doing things they don’t like.
  2. It’s the Economy, Stupid. My rent went up by over 10% this year. I couldn’t move to avoid it. Everyone’s rent in this city went up by over 10%. Even people in affordable housing saw huge hikes. Chicken is expensive, when I can even get chicken (this is a result of the bird flu outbreak causing a shortage of brood hens). Sometimes I can’t get pork either. These are…
