It IS transient in some people...if you avoid further tick bites it may go away in a year or two. If it doesn't, though, you're probably stuck with it. Honestly, it terrifies me because it's not just "stop eating red meat." Some people have to stop consuming milk and cheese too. Depending on the severity, you might also have to avoid:

Many types of candy

Gummy supplements (Some people *cannot* swallow large pills). You may be able to get a vegan one.

The MMR vaccine.

The nasal flu spray.

The only vaccine available against yellow fever in the U.S., required for travel to some countries.

Some medication.

Marshmallows.

Refried beans unless vegetarian.

Tic-tacs. No kidding. *Tic-tacs*

Some people with it can only eat at restaurants that don't serve red meat or dairy at all.

Others can't actually wear leather or come into contact with mammals.
