It's a way to have Black friends whilst still placing yourself above "those Black people over there," the ones who's accent and dress and behavior you don't approve of, isn't it.

It's another thing I try not to do and be. (Especially as I have some experience with being, shudder, the Jewish friend. Not saying it's remotely the same thing, but...)
