It's how they deny people the right to a jury of their peers.

Which is half-mythical anyway I'm mostly exempted from jury service (I'm supposed to be but once had a clerk who made me go anyway) because Virginia exempts business owners (the clerk probably figured that as I don't have employees...)

That one time the person, yup, cut a plea deal. It was some kind of misdemeanor.

I remember looking around the pool room and hoping the defendant wasn't Black. Yup. Sea of white faces. And while we have systemic racism, a white jury cannot be trusted to fairly try a Black defendant. I am fairly sure I would not have survived voir dire if had reached that point.
