It's not that easy. It's one more thing to forget and not being able to hydrate is a big deal, and is only going to become a bigger deal with climate change.

Bamboo straws are pretty decent and work very well for cocktail straws. (Any bar which puts a paper straw in my alcoholic drink Will Face My Wrath. For those who don't know, paper interacts with alcohol and it changes the flavor).

Stainless steel straws are outright dangerous. People have literally been killed by them.

*I* am perfectly happy to give up straws, but I know people it's causing real hardship to.

What I'm saying is that there is nuance here, and total bans on single use plastics cause real hardship and risk. Single use plastics save lives in healthcare constantly and are actually no worse for the environment than sanitizing costs.

That said, we can get rid of those stupid rings that hold beer and soda cans together any day now.
