It’s reduced significantly, but it’s a class thing.

If you are “well educated” then you are expected to speak in received pronunciation. Therefore, if you don’t, you clearly aren’t well educated and by extension poor.

I was taught to be ashamed of my accent and that I needed to get rid of it, pick up my aitches, forget the word ain’t existed and learn RP.

I am hideously contrary and refused to do any of those things even though I was told I would neither get a good job nor a good husband if I didn’t. I like my work and I love my husband…just saying ;).
