Just to add some nuance.

We should reforest places that are supposed to have trees. We should not afforest places that are NOT.

This has been a problem in the American prairie lands where the answer to the problem is prairie restoration, not planting trees.

I'm not arguing with your general premise. Planting trees is good. But there are other ecosystems we need to think about too. Wetlands are really important as well.
