Mammalian reproduction is a mess, and human reproduction is even more of a mess. There are so many tradeoffs.

Pregnancy is hard biological work and the only reason people tolerate it is because kids are, after all, important.

But I am pretty sure that if somebody announced the creation of an artificial womb tomorrow, a large proportion of potential parents would opt for it. Not all (some Catholics, for example, might find it a violation of their beliefs and I have talked to people who *loved* being pregnant). But probably a majority.
