Masks, Dress Codes, and Public Health
Okay, so…I’m going to talk about two different things in this article, but both boil down to the same point: The highly politicized nature of public health and the unwillingness of too many people to wear a simple item of clothing.
Also, these two different things do have something in common:
Texas.
The Paris Independent School District
Texas’ Governor, Greg Abbott, has shown a strong determination to get as many Texans infected with SARS-CoV-2 as possible.
One of his restrictions was to prohibit public schools (and a bunch of others) from mandating masks. Because parents have the right to decide whether other people’s children get sick. (Why yes, I am in favor of mandatory vaccinations to attend public school. Don’t want to vaccinate your kids? Get ready to homeschool them).
The Paris Independent School District had a simple answer to him: They amended the dress code.
Their dress code is the typical racist and sexist mess, but at least they found a way to require masks. (Is there some Texas gang reason for banning trench coats?)
