Mental note: If I ever have to fly after surgery that limits my mobility, get a surgeon's note.

I will also note that if you are flying with something like that it is a good idea to tell the airline. They can, for example, put you in a window seat with your shoulder on that side so nobody knocks it during the flight. They also need to know you can't be seated in the exit row.

And yes, needing help should be normalized. I hope the flight attendant helped you get your bag into the bin, because I can't imagine trying to do that with only one fully working arm. Well, I can, but I didn't try to fly with only one fully working hand. Thankfully.
