My assumption is that, as far as I know, Moore is straight, and when your sexuality is the default, it's harder to get your mind around alternatives. When cis people try to play with gender, they often do it with less nuance. Not always, of course. But our society doesn't encourage you to explore gender if it happens to match your genitals.
