My grandmother covered her hair. She was a Polish Jew, but covering was also common amongst married English women of her generation. I have sime if her scarves.My mother covered untilI was a few years old. I would say that covering as a sign of marriage in England didn't really go away until the late 70s!

Banning hijab is oppressing women too.
