My issue is that I don't think they will get a woolly mammoth. They will get a hairy elephant.

Not only will their recreated mammoth be in an elephant uterine environment, but it's going to be raised by an elephant.

Elephants are in the same intelligence band as great apes, the smarter cetaceans, and corvids. This means that like us, they have culture.

Woolly mammoth culture has been lost. In blunt terms, any recreated mammoth is going to imprint on elephants and "identify as an elephant." And there's absolutely no way to prevent this.

Worst, they may end up identifying as an elephant but with different neural wiring, and just ask an autistic person how annoying that is.

I'm not necessarily saying we shouldn't do it, but I don't think people are considering the culture issue at ALL.
