What I'm getting at here is that so many of us are racist that I don't judge a Black person who doesn't know me and sees only a random middle-aged white person for thinking I'm likely to be racist towards them.

The difference between that and assuming all Black people are criminals is that the vast majority of Black people aren't.

And the thing I can do about it is do my best not to be one of those white people, not sideye Black people for anger or frustration they might demonstrate in my presence.
