(Side note: I did not receive any compensation, considerations or anything from the company I’m going to be talking about in this post).

Our hopes this year were to go horse camping, but we decided we weren’t 100% confident we’d be comfortable flying.

But I did find us a one day ride with Cook Forest Scenic Trailride Dude Ranch & Campground. The price was very reasonable for horse rental, a guide and lunch. We shared our trip with two other people who could ride and three novices. So, yes, you can do this ride if you aren’t very experienced, but I would recommend being in reasonable strength. Riding in this terrain is a core workout!

We got to the ranch fairly early in the morning and were promptly stuffed into a car to drive to the trailhead. Once there, we were introduced to our rental horses, Rio and Lebanon.

(Not so many photos today because I didn’t take the camera).

Honestly, I had done a bunch of research and checked online reviews, but I was still worried we would show up and not be willing to ride because of safety concerns or the condition of the horses.

I was also expecting a fairly steady scenic nose to tail ride.

Nope!
