People really need to learn to stop putting numbers...I'm not exactly calling you out, but...
$70,000 a year is enough for a big house in some parts of the U.S.
In other parts? It's enough for, if you're lucky, a small room in somebody else's house. In Silicon Valley at that wage? Better have a decent car, because you're living in it.
Your principle is absolutely correct, but when somebody who is living in a crappy one bedroom on a household income of well over $70,000 comes along they're going to laugh at your numbers.
You're like the third person who's done something like this this week. "Stop pursuing the six figure salary" is also hilarious to people in high cost of living areas where six figures is "basic security...maybe."
I tend to say things like "Once you have housing security and enough for some luxuries" then yes, it's diminishing returns.
