2021 is not the worst year of my personal life…at a selfish level. But it’s up there. A friend died, I haven’t had a proper vacation since 2019 and I broke my hand.

But it had its good moments too. I’m going to make myself list them before i kick this year to the curb. Heck, it had some awesome ones.

I Got An Award Nomination

Woot! One of my stories got nominated for the Washington Science Fiction Society Small Press Award. This is a jury + member vote awarded to the best work of short fiction published by a small press in the previous year. The award is given both to the author and to the publisher.

I got to pretend to be famous, dress up and eat cake. With masks and vaccines, of course. The nominated story is in The Phantom Games from Excalibur Press. And a wonderful certificate I haven’t got around to getting framed yet.

Which story won? This year’s Hugo winning story, “Metal Like Blood in the Dark” by T. Kingfisher.
