So, here’s my reaction post to this year’s Nebula finalists, which dropped yesterday. Going through them in the order they are posted.
Novel
- The Unbroken by C.L. Clark. I haven’t read this, although I’ve been told by multiple people that I should. Now I really should. It’s North African flavored military fantasy and I’m told it is very, very queer and right up my alley. I just haven’t got around to looking at it yet.
- A Master of Djinn by P. Djèli Clark. I also haven’t read this one, but I’m there for pretty much anything Clark does (okay, this is going to be confusing with two Clarks in there, I might have to resort to initials). He’s generally better at shorter fiction, but…
- Machinehood by S.B. Divya. I read this one but didn’t nominate it, it didn’t quite fit my aesthetic preferences, although I’m happy to read it again. It’s kind of cyberpunky?
- A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine. Another one I really, really need to read but haven’t got to. I adored A Memory Called Empire and am there for anything Martine wants to give me. She’s also cute when you tell her that ;). (I made her blush).
- Plague Birds by Jason Sanford. The only one of my nominees to make the list (Which I think reflects slightly off base reading more than anything else). If you like Gene Wolfe, read…
