So, basically, in an English pub, the appropriate ordering etiquette is to claim a numbered table (if you're on your own you leave your coat there, because you have a coat, because it's going to rain, because it's always going to rain), then go to the bar, place your order providing the table number, pay, then take your drink(s) back to the table.

Americans often sit around waiting for a waiter to come and take their order...which will never happen. Restaurants work like that. Pubs don't.
