That's honestly more complicated. As somebody who knows a bit about how this works, what often happens as somebody gets clout is not so much that they "stop listening to their editors," as they are often accused of doing (Now, some big names are notorious for not listening, such as Stephen King).
What's actually more common is the editor becoming intimidated and not saying what they need to say. It's very easy to be intimidated by big name authors.
