And the verdict is in! Here are the 2022 Nebula Award winners

Nebula Award for Novel

A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark. A wonderful steampunk detective thriller set in Cairo, beautifully written.

My choice was Jason Sanford’s Plague Birds but I knew in my heart that it was too weird to win.

Clark spins a wonderful tale of djinn, magic, politics and disaster lesbians.

Nebula Award for Novella

And What Can We Offer You Tonight by Premee Mohamed

Sex worker positive, interestingly written and, for once, not from Tor.com. We need more novella outlets, just saying.

Nebula Award for Novelette

“O2 Arena” by Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki. Ekpeki is the first Black African author to win a Nebula award! It’s climate fiction, but is much more deeply about what we will do and sacrifice for the people we love, with a side of f- cancer.

Nebula Award for Short Story

“Where Oaken Hearts Do Gather” by Sarah Pinsker.

I understand why this story won, but it was my least favorite on the ballot. No offense to Pinsker, but I felt distanced from the actual story by the experimental…
