The majority of vegans are absolutely fine. They might mention their moral opposition, but they don't evangelize over it.
Then there's the tiny number who, among other things:
1. Say that if you have health problems from not eating meat, the moral thing to do is be unhealthy or even let yourself die.
2. Describe slaughterhouses at the dinner table.
3. Compare eating food to the Holocaust. Bonus points if they have Jewish friends or even "Jewish relatives."
4. Compare using working animals or keeping animals in general to slavery. Bonus points if they have Black friends. (Also, I will note, that there are plenty of vegans who ride horses. The ones that don't have never really hung out with a horse, just saying).
5. Harass people with service dogs and compare that to slavery.
6. Refuse to eat honey while eating orchard fruits that were pollinated by domesticated bees and get very hot under the collar if anyone points this out.
That's the ones I can think of right now.
One of the thoughts I've had on the matter is this:
Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include depression, irritability, and behavioral changes...the kind of changes a lot of these vegan extremists show. B12 deficiency can turn you into an asshole.
B12 can only be naturally obtained from animal sources. ALL vegans (and most vegetarians) should be supplementing B12, period. So I suspect at least some of the people who act like this are deficient and would be much nicer if they just took their supplements.
I don't have an issue with vegans and have gone out of my way to cater to them before. But I do have an issue with people who compare a chicken farm with Auschwitz...
