The problem with the 'true family members' status is that ARAs will then use this as ammo in their goal to destroy livestock farming...and in some cases destroy pet breeding altogether too.
Everything else, though, I agree with. In the U.S. there is definitely a lower number of kids interested in becoming large animal vets than small ones, and many kids who want to be vets can't afford the education (which, for those who don't know, is actualy MORE school than an MD because you have to deal with more than one species).
In the U.S., I think more people would get pet insurance if it was combined with liability insurance, which when my family had dogs in the U.S., our insurance covered both the dogs' medical needs AND our liability if they bit somebody. Same with the insurance on my pony. But when I researched in the US, liability is vaguely maybe covered by homeowners and medical is separate. Would more people get it if it also helped protect them from getting sued if their dog gets out and bites the person trying to catch it?
