The Titles of Queen Camilla — and a Word We Haven’t Heard in a While

Queen Consort Camilla. The Palace is now pushing for her just to be Queen Camilla, against the wishes of Elizabeth…and as somebody who thinks, in gender equity, her title should be Princess Consort, I’m irritated.

The Queen’s husband does not get to be King. The King’s wife should not get to be Queen.

But that’s a digression from the interesting thought I had.

Remember the Queen Mom?

I am, of course, talking about Queen Elizabeth’s formidable mother, who died in 2002 at the age of 101. She was smart, brilliant, and a world-renowned expert on Thoroughbred racehorse bloodlines.

Arab Sheikhs, not known for respecting the intelligence of women, would repeatedly seek her advice on matings.

The full title was Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

This title has been used in England since at least the early 1560s to refer to the mother of the reigning monarch.

Specifically the mother of the reigning monarch.

King Father is not a thing, but it is likely that had Prince Philip outlived his wife, he would have been given the title Prince Father. It’s never actually happened, so there would undoubtedly have been arguments…
