The Walls of Jericho…

If you grew up Christian, whether devout or nominal, then you know the story.

During the conquest of Canaan, the Israelites needed to capture the city of Jericho. According to the story, the walls collapsed after the Israelites marched around the city once a day for six days then seven times on the seventh day.

Obviously, this was propaganda written by the victors. Many guesses as to the truth have been circulated.

But the general feeling is that Jericho’s walls didn’t collapse and certainly not by “act of God.” Maybe they breached them?

Well. Now we may have a different story.

The Destruction of Tell el-Hammam

Tell el-Hammam was a city in what is now Jordan, and was one of the largest Bronze Age cities in the area.

Until it wasn’t.

Archaeologists at Tell el-Hammam found a destruction layer. The city burned. The city burned quickly. An act of war?

No.

An act of God.

In about 1650 BC, an icy asteroid, similar to the one which burst over Tunguska, burst directly over…
