Personally, I don't believe self identification should be enough in sports where testosterone is an advantage.

I also don't believe trans women who have medically transitioned for years should be forced to compete against cis men. There should be a process that allows them to compete in the female category when testosterone levels have dropped and their scores have dropped compared to *their* pre-transition capabilities.

Trans men, in converse, should be barred from the female category in these sports once they go on testosterone, and should be obliged to compete against men. There was a situation where a youth wrestler in Texas was told he had to compete in the female category because of his birth certificate. He did so, to prove a point, and of course, won. It goes both ways...

We also need to consider whether all sports need to be gendered. To be blunt, some things, such as shooting, are gendered because men are fragile and don't want to be beaten by "girls" and they can deal with it.
