Then you get people like me, privately educated but stubbornly keeping the working class accent because I got tired of the entire thing.
Americans think I'm posh. Brits think I'm from, basically, the projects. (I also code switch so Americans don't get the full force of the accent and dialect or they wouldn't understand me, especially as my particular hyper regional accent isn't shared with any actors).
But a sign of how things are changing: Actors in the UK are no longer required to work in a home counties accent, just listen to Doctor Who these days.
