There are undoubtedly quite a few groups of people we don't have memory of from before written records. They got assimilated into other groups, migrated and changed, etc.

Wondering about ancient civilizations is not racist at all. "How did they do that?" is an awesome question to ask.

It's the answer of "They didn't, aliens did" that's the problem.
