There’s a connection between foot binding, heels, hobble skirts, extreme corsetry (I state extreme because it’s amazing what you can do in a standard corset), and even the lack of pockets in women’s clothing. It’s all about reducing female mobility and controlling us. (When you have to carry a bag everywhere because you have no pockets it slows you down).

FGM is a different issue, but I would say our equivalent is, in fact, restrictive laws about abortion, which are not about protecting the fetus but about keeping women from enjoying sex.
