They don't really happen here, or if I'd have time I'd show up just to be supportive.
One of the SF cons I go to has drag performers who do family-friendly shows and give advice to cosplayers who want to portray the opposite gender. They have never done anything inappropriate. As there are kids in the room, they do performances that are appropriate. As its an SF con, what they mostly do is filk (for those who don't know, filk is SF-themed folk music often, but not always, a parody of a well known song with SF lyrics). They keep trying to get me into a binder, but I'm a grown ass queer adult so of course they want to recruit ;).
Furthermore, I want to point out to these people that where I come from there is the tradition of pantomime, which involves drag style crossdressing and is explicitly for kids. The pantomime dame and the principal boy. There definitely aren't a higher percentage of gay people in the UK! ;)
