This is organizations. I have one to deposit today, in miserable weather...very glad to have the money, but not so happy about having to go outside to "claim" it.

It's not just old people, it's government agencies (all of them), colleges (likely all of them), New York publishing companies.

There's institutional inertia here. Also, I do think some people think that depositing a check doesn't involve fees...no, but it involves time that somebody has to spend, and that's valuable too.
